Quick & Easy Cat Food Recipes

Liver and Kidney Cobbler:

For cats that prefer stronger flavours or are elderly and need a stronger smell from there food this is a good mixture.

Cook 600g liver and kidney 50/50 mix, ideally pig’s kidney and liver as this is stronger smelling, with 200g brown rice and 200g vegetables (root vegetables, leafy greens or Sunday night’s leftover veggies can be used as long as they are varied). Place all ingredients into a large cooking pot and cover with water. Boil and then simmer for 20 minutes before draining any excess water. Add a tbsp of a good quality multivitamin such as SA50 for cats after cooking and then blend the mixture until smooth.

This creates a mix very similar to expensive cat pates and a portion should be about 3 tbsp per cat per meal split between 3 meals a day, this should be reduced if adding dry food with 20g dry food accounting for each per 3 tbsp serving.

Fishy Surprise:

Again a strong smelling food that can be used to encourage sick cats to eat and that is gentle on sensitive stomachs.

Cook 500g white fish (most major supermarkets do a value or budget frozen pack of mixed fish that is economical and excellent for homemade cat food), with 100g brown rice, 100g potatoes with skins and 200g vegetables. Place all ingredients into a large cooking pot and cover with water. Boil and then simmer for 20 minutes before draining any excess water. Add a tbsp of a good quality multivitamin such as SA50 for cats after cooking and then blend the mixture until smooth. Add to this mixture a small tin of boneless sardines in olive oil cut into small pieces and a small tin of drained tuna in brine.

This is loved by cats as much as premium fish cat foods and again a portion should be about 3 tbsp per cat per meal split between 3 meals a day, this should be reduced if adding dry food with 20g dry food accounting for each per 3 tbsp serving. Remember tuna based foods should be fed occasionally as a treat and not form the main diet of a cat so if wanting to feed this daily skip the tuna and add a little more chunked sardines for your moggies.
