This is a great recipe for a quick evening meal especially for children. You could throw in some frozen peas and sweetcorn to both bulk out the meal and to get a few of your five a day in it.

Although the recipe calls for reduced fat creme fraiche it is fine to use full fat, and especially when making for children it is better to use full fat ingredients.

You can also add mixed herbs or black pepper for a little more flavour for adult taste buds or try using spaghetti and adding some chopped cooked bacon or ham and it’s an easy-peasy carbonara.

Ingredients for Easy Macaroni Cheese:

  • 250g macaroni, or other pasta
  • 1/2 pot reduced fat creme fraiche
  • 200g grated cheese

Method for Easy Macaroni Cheese:

  1. Cook the macaroni as per the packet instructions and drain;
  2. Put it back on a low heat, stir in the creme fraiche;
  3. Add the grated cheese.

Serves 4

It is so simple and easy to do, only using one saucepan. Costs between 50p to 70p per portion depending on your type of cheese.
